Online Therapy in British Columbia: How It Works and What to Expect

💻 Therapy that meets you where you are

Maybe you’ve been thinking about starting therapy but the logistics (traffic, scheduling, parking) keep getting in the way.

Here’s the good news: therapy doesn’t have to mean sitting in a waiting room anymore.

Online therapy (also called virtual counselling) allows you to connect with a therapist from the comfort of your own space, whether that’s your living room, car, or a cozy corner with your favourite mug.

At Anchor & Align Psychotherapy, I offer secure online therapy for clients across British Columbia, helping you work through anxiety, overthinking, relationship stress, and life transitions at a pace that feels right for you.

What online therapy looks like

Online sessions take place through a secure, encrypted video platform designed for healthcare (similar to Zoom, but built for privacy).

During our sessions, we’ll talk much like we would in person. You can bring a blanket, light a candle, or simply show up as you are. Many clients find that being in their own environment helps them open up more easily and feel at ease.

Therapy is a space for you to slow down, reflect, and begin understanding what’s beneath the noise. All without having to leave home

What we can work on together

I specialize in supporting young adults navigating:

  • Anxiety, panic, and overthinking

  • OCD and intrusive thoughts

  • People-pleasing and perfectionism

  • Relationship or boundary struggles

  • Life transitions and self-doubt

  • Neurodiversity and emotional regulation

Whether you’re feeling stuck, constantly “on,” or unsure how to quiet your thoughts, online therapy offers tools to help you anchor yourself again.

Is online therapy effective?

Yes!!!

Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns, including anxiety, stress, and emotional regulation.

What makes it work?

  • You’re still connecting with a trained therapist (just through a screen).

  • The process, goals, and evidence-based approaches are exactly the same.

  • The flexibility often helps people attend therapy more consistently.

🧾 Insurance coverage for therapy in British Columbia

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), my services are covered by many extended health insurance plans that include Registered Psychotherapist coverage (even for clients living in British Columbia).

Many major insurance providers reimburse sessions with Registered Psychotherapists, including:

  • Sun Life

  • Manulife

  • Greenshield

  • Canada Life (formerly Great-West Life)

  • Equitable Life

  • ClaimSecure

  • Desjardins

  • Empire Life

👉 If you’re unsure, it’s always best to check with your provider to confirm your specific coverage for “Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)” services.

I also offer a sliding scale for those without insurance coverage because therapy should be accessible.

Getting started

Starting therapy doesn’t have to feel daunting. I offer free 15-minute consultations (think of it as a vibe check). It’s a chance for you to ask questions, see how it feels to connect, and get a sense of what working together might look like.

Sessions are available virtually anywhere in BC, including Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops, and surrounding areas.

In closing

Online therapy gives you space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. It’s therapy that fits into real life.

If you’re ready to start feeling more grounded and less overwhelmed, you can book your free consultation today.
